DACA & The Healthcare Marketplace
As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to make affordable healthcare accessible to all, a new rule from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services now allows Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients to enroll in health coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Health Insurance Marketplace. Effective November 1, 2024, this rule could allow up to 100,000 previously uninsured DACA recipients to access quality health plans, including options for financial assistance to reduce costs. As the enrollment period begins, eligible individuals can apply through the ACA Marketplace and potentially start coverage as early as December 1, 2024.
This update supports DACA recipients, many of whom work in are students or work in essential roles, by making comprehensive health coverage accessible and affordable.
